Manuscript Assessment
For specific feedback on your manuscript’s direction at the earliest stages.
In an assessment, I focus on big picture items like plot, characterization, pace, tone, language, and structure. Think of it as a light and affordable developmental edit, or as a comprehensive beta read. I assess your manuscript from a reader’s and editor’s perspective to help you revise the manuscript with your intended audience and creative goals in mind. This is ideal for first drafts.
You’ll receive an annotated manuscript that points out what is or isn’t working. You’ll also receive an editorial letter that elaborates the annotations and provides honest and actionable feedback to aid with revision.

Stylistic Editing
For guidance on style and language after an assessment or a beta read.
Also known as line editing, this service focuses on the manuscript at a paragraph and sentence level to elevate the flow, readability, and overall quality of the text. This is ideal for when you’re satisfied with the direction of your manuscript or when you’re ready to revise.
I edit for plot holes, character inconsistencies, and general language issues. I’ll use a customized style sheet to ensure that details stay consistent and logical (e.g., character names that are spelled the same throughout, numbers that add up). Regarding language, I recommend changes to avoid redundancies, repetition, and wordiness without changing your meaning, intention, or style. I will also assess the manuscript for conscious and inclusive language use to avoid any that may be harmful or misrepresentative of identity, health status, culture, socioeconomic status, and more.
You’ll receive a redline manuscript with tracked changes and queries in the comments section of the document. You’ll also receive a customized style sheet and an editorial letter that explains any substantial change made throughout the manuscript, along with practical suggestions for further improvement. You’ll have thirty days after the project completion to discuss the edits.

Copyediting
For refining the text and correcting egregious errors.
Copyediting focuses on the mechanical aspects of your manuscript: grammar, syntax, capitalization, punctuation, and usage. I will make edits to elevate the manuscript and make sure that readers can enjoy the story without the distractions of misspellings or awkward sentences. This is ideal for later revisions or when you’re preparing for submission.
For business copy, I’ll edit the content to its clearest and most polished version. I’ll ensure that it adheres to any in-house style provided, or I can help you create one for your brand. I will also recommend improvements for conscious and inclusive language use to help better reach your audience.
You’ll receive a redline manuscript with tracked changes.

Proofreading
For that final touch.
This service focuses on grammatical errors and turning a good manuscript into an exceptional one. I’ll edit the manuscript for mechanical issues (i.e., grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation, usage) and obvious errors in formatting. This is ideal for the final revision before publication.
You’ll receive a redline manuscript with tracked changes.
